An ultrasound scan of the heart
A probe with gel is moved over the chest to show the heart's chambers, valves and pumping strength on a screen. It is painless, uses no radiation and takes about 20 to 30 minutes. No fasting is needed. It is used to assess breathlessness, murmurs, heart failure and valve disease.
