Bliss 32 Dental & Implant Centre
A full examination with advice on what needs doing, and what does not.
A check-up is a short appointment that is mostly about finding things while they are still small. Most dental problems are silent until they are advanced - decay does not hurt until it reaches the nerve, and gum disease rarely hurts at all - so waiting for pain means arriving at the expensive end of every problem.
What we look at
Each tooth for decay, wear, cracks and failing old fillings. The gums, with a probe, for bleeding and pocketing. Any existing crowns, bridges or dentures. And the soft tissues - cheeks, tongue, floor of the mouth, throat - which is a screening for anything unusual that needs a closer look. That last part takes under a minute and is one of the more valuable minutes in dentistry.
X-rays if needed, not automatically, because the areas between the teeth cannot be seen any other way.
What you get told
What we found, in plain language. What needs doing now, what is worth watching, and what could wait. If nothing needs doing, that is the answer you will get - a check-up that finds nothing is a good outcome, not a wasted visit.
How often
Six months suits most people. If you smoke, have diabetes, have a history of gum disease, or tend to get decay, more often is sensible. We will tell you what interval fits you rather than booking everyone at the same one.
Come sooner if
A tooth hurts, a gum swells, something is loose, a filling comes out, or you notice an ulcer or a patch in the mouth that has not healed in two weeks. None of those should wait for the next routine visit.
Bring a list of your medicines and anything that has changed in your health - both affect what is safe and sensible to do.
